Magnificent atlatl  with carved wood effigy thumb hook on a wooden shaft.  Thumb hook features a carved face with remnants of a darker stain on cap of skull and pupils of eyes.  Copper hook on end in the form of a man in flight with protruding headdress.  Some of the fiber attaching copper piece is worn away.  As an extension of your arm, this item would allow for a spear to be thrown further.  Measures 18 1/4 inches in length and has been polished smooth.  Custom stand included.  Acquired through Bonhams & Butterfields.
