This piece is a Mayan mold used for making appliques to apply to other pottery pieces.  Depicts the face of an owl with elongated nose and detailed eyes.  Left hand side of mold is cracked and missing one wing and leg. The face is completely intact.  Cracked edge reveals dark carbon line attesting to the age. This was a workman's tool.  Amazing it still exists.  Provenance; private Southwest collection.
