Paracas Stirrup Vessel

Similar to a double spouted stirrup vessel, this piece has the head of a bird on the second spout featuring an air hole.  This is one of our favorite pieces.  Many incised geometric patterns.  Although colors appear dull, if lightly moistened colors become quite dramatic.  The red, green, yellow, and black colors against the incised designs make this piece a beauty to display.  If the piece were to be coated with wax, the colors and design would really pop.  Even the stirrup handle is incised.  Bottom and back of vessel is smooth.  The front of the vessel below the bird shows a fanged face.  Appears unrestored and intact.  Minor abrasions.  Measures approximately 7 3/4 inches in height, 5 3/4 in width.  Circa 200 BCE to 200 CE.  Provenance; Private Southwest Collection.
