Each bell is attached to a braid of human hair, which was part of a Chimu headdress.  The Chimu culture was from the North Coast of Peru, circa 800 to 1476 of the Common Era.  The top end (attachment point) of each braid is wrapped in a fine thread of gold, red, tan, white, and green alternating colors.  The bells are copper and decorated with a human-like face.  Braids range from 10 to 30 inches.  Bells measure approximately 1/2 inch width, 3/4 inch in length.  There are 11 total braids.  Would look wonderful mounted and framed.  A unique addition to any collection!
