This large fragment of a pottery head was once part of a very large urn.  Open mouth and raised eyebrows, bean shaped eyes and headdress painted with a black resin, typical of many Veracruz pieces.  Some pieces missing from right side of headdress.  Ear missing from left side.  Although damaged, what is left is truly elegant.  Measure 8 inches in height, 5 1/2 inches in width.  On a custom stand.  Granite base is being made for this piece to be completed prior to sale.  Open mouth leads to a cavity that would have opened to inside of urn to allow smoke to escape.  Provenance; acquired through Arizona gallery.
